Back to Festival Reviews

This year the Eastern Haze Festival line-up read like a psychedelic spacerock spectacular from the 60's or 70's. This review concentrates on those bands which represent the front-line of British Spacerock, the only genre of "popular music" where the authority of age is adulated. I hope we capture this with our photo review because the music was truly awesome, played by some of the greatest exponents of Rock who are thank God - still going strong.

The fest itself was well run with very good vibes all round. Security was "Strict but Fair" and in this age of tight controls, without it, there would be no festivals. It took place in the grounds of Somerleyton Hall Estate - a nice venue.

Above, the crowd wait in anticipation as the main stage is prepared for the appearance of the mighty Hawkwind

Enjoy.

"Third Eye Shineth"

Steffe Sharpstrings from Gong plays with his original band "Here and Now". He is without doubt one of the greatest living spacerock guitarists.

Dumpy left his Rusty Nuts behind and performed an authoritive solo set

Litmus, fresh from their european campaigns, represent the New Wave of British Spacerock.
They delivered a powerful, high-energy set.

Spacehead, a "hard edge" Spacerock band, featured Richard Chadwick from Hawkwind (2nd left), on percussion.

Of course there were all the usual shops and stuff as well as great bands

Ex Hawkwind veteran, Harvey Bainbridge a.k.a. BAINBRIDGE THE DEAFENER, concluded his sonic exploration into the outer limits of mans conciousness by destroying the power system of the Eastern Haze main stage - I am not joking - this is the kind of thing he does - you just don't know what's going to happen when this Behemoth of Spacerock commands the stage!

"AND THE NAMES AND THE NAMES AND THE SACRED NAMES"

See y'all next year
