THE REVIEW

One of our fave fests, the BGG took place this year at a new location near the Cheddar Gorge. The view of the Mendip hills from the site was magnificent, yet a 20 min walk would take you to the nearby town of Cheddar, not that anyone would want to leave the large site which included several reed-fringed lakes and where daily supplies of milk, fresh bread, and other tasty treats (the almond croissants are highly recommended) could be found on-site!

The fest included all the expected ingredients of a first rate green event. Power came from the wind and the sun only. We never heard the grumble of a generator. The area dedicated to crafts and alternative technology was large and comprehensive. Many of the workshops were open to and enjoyed by Adults and children alike. These included stone carving, pottery and lantern making. For adults there were also workshops in a number of things including wood carving. This festival really was a 'hand on' experience if that's what you wanted it to be!

There were a large number of Environmental Workshops and Talks about living in a less environmentally harmful way. These included bio-diesel, community composting, alternative transport and energy, as well as talks on the lastest info on BSE, global farming issues, human rights and other concerns.

The Healing, Spiritual and Energy Fields were large and comprehensive and hosted numerous free workshops on a wide range of topics including meditation, crystal healing, yoga, exporing relationships and sharmanic journeying. Again, many of these workshops were of interest to adults and older children. Within the transquility that was palpable within these Healing areas many forms of complimentary medicines were available.

Music was everywhere, mainly acoustic biased in the many cafes, but for those who wanted to let their hair down, the new Croissant Neuf marquee provided a large main music venue where acts like Headmix, Nik Turners All Stars, KangAroo Moon, Dragonsfly, Riven and Praying for the Rain created a focus for the revellers.

Kids were very well catered for as usual and yet again the BGG proved itself to be a fest where you just can't avoid having a good time whatever your bent.
