BIG GREEN GATHERING 2005

"HORSES, HORSES, EVERYWHERE"

The Big Green Gathering is a festival dedicated to non-polluting technologies and attitudes.

While the "advanced" nations of the world continue to belch their industrial poisons into the atmosphere with a stunning disregard for the future of humanity, and local councils delight in taxing struggling eco-aware enterprises out of existence, the answers to our ecological problems can be found here. On this large site, high up in the mendips all power is generated by the wind and the sun. You can get practical info about everything from toolmaking to wattle and daub house building. The music is great and the friendly atmosphere leaves Glastonbury way behind. I recommend a visit to their site where you can find out more about this essential festival

Big Green Gathering 2006... We build - They destroy

This years Big Green Gathering was one of best fests I've been to recently. The weather was great. So was the music and vibes. There were no vehicles moving about the site this year. The only form of transport was HORSES, even for transporting equipment to gigs - yea great.

Above is the horse field - where they all hang out.

Quodlings Delight play medieval folk music. They were my festival favourites - very accomplished musicians and an enchanting vocalist.

Nik Turner and Judge Trev of Galactikos, who headlined thursday night at the Croissant Neuf Marquee - Wow!

Billy Bragg addresses the Green Forum
"We're going to the Big City. We're going to start a fire in the guts of the enemy - AND BURN HIS BLACK HEART OUT!" (Bomber Harris circa 1942). Billy didn't actually say this. His words were considered, informed, and wise. That's what I would have said tho...

Chicken Shed Zeppelin, featuring Ade from Trajic Roundabout on fiddle - a great up-tempo folk band.

Katus Young (pronounced Katuush), performs on the Green Radio outside broadcast studio. I think we will see a lot more of her at the fests. Visit her site and find out more about this dynamic international folk-based songstress

Slim Tim Slide's virtuoso slide/blues guitar set was very well received at the Henry's Beard marquee. Here he performs live on Green radio.

Geoff's uplifting set is well worth seeing. Visit his website:

Kissmet, rising stars of the festival scene, play Bangra with Led Zeppelin riffs! They headlined on friday night at the Croissant Neuf Marquee. Great music and atmosphere.
