REAL MUSIC CLUB 11

AT THE MARLBOROUGH THEATRE, PRINCES ST, BRIGHTON

THU 24th Nov 7.45 - 11.00 £3/4

Last month Judge Trev and Jaki Windmill hit the RMC with their new Acoustic Doom set. As the world's premier Acoustic/Doom duo, they had no problems firing-up the capacity crowd with their cutting yet humourous performance. They have a new live album, "Live in Portsmouth" available on "The CDs" page.

Grelch, the headliners were nothing short of phenomenal. They are going to be BIG.

REAL MUSIC CLUB 10

AT THE MARLBOROUGH THEATRE, PRINCES ST, BRIGHTON

THU 27th Oct 7.45 - 11.00 £4

The Club really came into it's own last month. Lorraine Bowen delivered a most entertaining, professional and sparkling set of sexy zany casio songs - what a lovely voice she has. Her penultimate song was to have been performed on her priceless Omnichord (a present from Billy Bragg), but unfortunately it didn't work as Stuart (promoter) had spilled a pint of beer over it.

In stark contrast, Shark (some of the musicians had long hair!) jammed through their set as if it was 1967 - and the majic came. Most of the full-house were on their feet resonating with this great extemporising combo, while outside there was a near riot as the front window of the Marlborough was stove in by over-excited revellers from the pub downstairs. The police were quickly on the scene with their gas sprays and brought the evening back to some semblance of normality. It was a night I will remember for a long time.

Oh yes, Slim Tim Tim Slide and the Uncontrollables played too...

Judge Trev and Jaki are back this month with the long-awaited return of Four Eyes who are one of Brightons best new young bands.

REAL MUSIC CLUB 6

THIS MONTH AT THE MARLBOROUGH THEATRE, PRINCES ST, BRIGHTON

THU 23 JUNE 7.45 - 11.00

Well just look at this months all-star line up. The Polly Shang Kuan band are making big waves with their revolutionary new music, and Monty Zero and the "Captain" need no introduction.

Last Month... Yes the legendary captain Stupidt turned up and delivered a short and cutting solo performance with everyone singing along with the choruses... The Acoustikats duo topped the bill and delivered a great set with their usual high "Feel-Good" factor - a great, well attended gig.

SUN 22 May 7.30 - 10.30

Everyone was on form last month but the stars of the show were Big D who's blond singer has an amazing and sensuous vocal style. He is star material without a doubt - record companies please note.

This month is "Duo night" featuring some of Brightons best acts, and the Acoustikats from Portsmouth because they were so good last month. As well as the acts on the poster, the old Zap Club's legendary Captain Stupidt promises to make an appearance at some stage of the proceedings

REAL MUSIC CLUB 4

THE MARLBOROUGH THEATRE - upstairs at THE MARLBOROUGH TAVERN 4 PRINCES STREET BRIGHTON 7.45PM - 11PM - Thu 21st April

RMC is all set to be another eclectic musical experience with the best folk, soul, blues and psychedelia in town.

Last month's stars were undoubtedly "Four Eyes", a young up-and-coming band who's original blend of folk, zapaesque musical departures, tight harmonies and cuttingly delivered social comment was a rivetting experience. We think that one day they will be "Big" if the music biz ever get over their narrow-minded obsession with "formula" that is!

Come to the Real Music Club, crucible of the UK's new music.

REAL MUSIC CLUB 3

THE MARLBOROUGH THEATRE - upstairs at THE MARLBOROUGH TAVERN 4 PRINCES STREET BRIGHTON 8.00PM - 11PM - Thu 24th March

Last month's Real Music Club was another great success. After our regulars Judge Trev and Jaki Windmill, and The Uncontrollables, our two guest bands proved to be well worth their salt. Bemsha Swing turned out to be a band of very talented musicians of the Captain Beefhart/Frank Zappa genre - a really tight, well-played set

Star of the evening was surely Monty Oxymoron from the Damned who mesmerised us with his one-man keyboard/percussion set. At one point he was playing the floor with a pair of drumsticks! A unique and stunning performance.

REAL MUSIC CLUB 2

Apart from the usual Judge Trev, Jaki Windmill and Uncontrollables, this month features Monty Oxymoron, just finished touring with the Damned and raring to subdue us with his rather unorthodox keyboard based show. I don't know what to expect!

Bemsha Swing play a form of Jazz??? People tell me that they are also a little on the, shall we say, "original" side of the genre.

We don't know the running order yet, we fight over it on the night. I (judge trev) usually lose because they gang up on me. If you want to see the first act and guarantee that you'll get in - get there early (music starts at 8.00pm).

For further details ring Trev: 01273 387645 or on the night: Stuart: 07773270336

Oh, and will the person who gave me their cd and contact info at the last gig please get in touch - because I lost it!

REAL MUSIC CLUB 1

Yup, we are now promoting our own gigs in the Brighton area. We are currently planning on one Real Music Club gig per month at the Marlborough Theatre.

The first gig, which we didn't advertise on RFM (technical problems - cough!) was a real blast. It turned out much better than we thought. About 30 people turned up - the Marlborough Theatre's max capacity is 50 so that was cosy.

The venue has a proper, raised, theatre-style stage and the people who run it are cool.

Judge Trev and Jaki Windmill started the evening with their folky acoustic set and were followed by an increase in volume and tempo by The Uncontrollables (punk/blues slide guitar, harp, drums), featuring Slim Tim Slide, legendary brighton busker. Captain Sensible kindly stood in on bass.

The theatre/pop act The Las Vegas Mermaids blew everyones mind with their highly professional, mind expanding, humorous and rather rude sketches utilising live synth, bass and video projections. They are highly recommended to any festivals looking for top class music/theatre acts. www.thelasvegasmermaids.co.uk
